Salinger has appeared in films such as Creature (1985), Pee-wee’s Big Adventure (1985), The Morning After, The Verne Miller Story, Alice, The Butcher’s Wife, Unbecoming Age, Batman Returns, Ghost World, Dark House and Queen of the Lot.

She played Lupaza in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episodes “Shakaar” and “The Darkness and the Light”.

In Charmed, she played Sea Hag in the episode “A Witch’s Tail: Part 1” (2002).

She had a role on Carnivàle as Apollonia.

Salinger also guest starred in Murder, She Wrote, NYPD Blue, ER, The Others, Curb Your Enthusiasm, How I Met Your Mother and Salem.
